Today is Monday, August 31, 2026, however: Aug. 6, 2011, United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) declared each year, the ENTIRE month of August (Aug. 1 – 31), shall be observed, celebrated, and; dedicated as NATIONAL BREASTFEEDING MONTH (NBM).
USBC (usbreastfeeding.org) states;
“USBC is announcing NBM 2026 (NBM26) theme is RISE: Resilience. Interdependence. Self-Determination. Empowerment.
NBM26 theme captures the heart and strength of the First Food Field (FFF). The acronym RISE was chosen to highlight our strengths as we advocate for the policy, systems, and environmental changes necessary to create a landscape of breastfeeding support for EVERY family.
The thematic image centers the sunrise, embodying the enduring spirit of our community… “
World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) designates each August 1 – 7, as World Breastfeeding Week (WBW, WBW26)
Indigenous Milk Medicine Collective (IMMC) observes each August 8 – 14, as Indigenous Milk Medicine Week (IMMW, IMMW26)
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) comemmorate August 15 – 21, as AANHPI Breastfeeding Week (AANHPIBW, AANHPIBW26)
Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) proclaims each August 25 – 31, as Black Breastfeeding Week (BBW, BBW26).
